SimTraffic is a powerful, easy-to-use traffic simulation softwareapplication. SimTraffic performs micro-simulation and animation ofvehicular and pedestrian-related traffic. With SimTraffic,individual vehicles are modeled and displayed traversing a streetnetwork. SimTraffic models signalized and unsignalizedintersections, as well as freeway sections with cars, trucks,pedestrians, and buses. Unlike a number of other modelingapplications, SimTraffic animation is
displayed while the simulation is performed. Data entry isintuitive and efficient. With a single mouse click, any data setcreated with Synchro can be used to run simulations withinSimTraffic.

Warrants
Warrants is an easy-to-use product that enables trafficprofessionals to determine whether a traffic signal is needed foran intersection. Warrants will evaluate an entire network ofintersections at once, capturing multiple volume time periods foreach intersection. Layout and volume information can be importedfrom Synchro for easy model setup.
TripGen
TripGen, originally developed by Microtrans, is a simple,easy-to-use tool that calculates trip generation based on Version 9of the Institution of Transportation Engineer’s Trip GenerationManual. The analyst can select the desired independent variable andthen calculate driveway volumes by using the rates or equationsfound in the Trip Generation Manual. Pass-by trips and internalcapture trips for mixed-use developments (NCHRP 684) can also betaken into account. The software allows users to enter custom triprates based on local or regional studies. Several reports areavailable for users to quickly review calculations. Future versionsof the software will be integrated with Synchro, thus significantlyreducing the time required to analyze traffic impacts.
SimTraffic CID
The SimTraffic Controller Interface Device, or CID, is a linkbetween the SimTraffic controller interface software and a trafficsignal controller. The link between software and hardware is knownas real-time, hardware-in-the-loop simulation. This simulationallows the analyst to use actual signal controller hardware tofine-tune a traffic signal timing plan. The CID’shardware-in-the-loop simulation also allows the analyst to test thefeatures of the signal controller from the convenience of theoffice, rather than out in the field.
Intersection Capacity Utilization
The intersection capacity utilization (ICU) method is more preciseand less subject to manipulation, and is intended to be used inplanning applications, such as future roadway design and siteimpact studies. The ICU objective function is volume-to-capacityratios, rather than delay; it is designed to measure the truecapacity of an intersection. The ICU is designed to be used inconjunction with delay-based methods, such as Synchro and those inthe Highway Capacity Manual, to give an overall picture ofintersection performance.
