We are happy to announce the program AmQuakefor earthquake/seismic design of masonry buildings. The programname is AmQuake, and it is a result of a close cooperation betweenČervenka Consulting and Wienerberger, major European manufacturerof masonry systems.
The program will help engineers to design safe masonry buildings inthe seismic regions of Europe. This development was initiated bythe introduction of Eurocode 6 and 8 in Europe. These standardshave become mandatory in the European Union starting from March2010, and they enforce strong rules for masonry buildings inseismic regions. AmQuake is using pushover analysis and theequivalent frame method to check the seismic safety of masonrybuildings in a graphical user friendly environment.
The construction of stable buildings requires not only exactplanning, but also extensive calculations. The most importantparameters are provided by so-called Eurocodes – standardiseddesign rules for construction in Europe. There are currently 10Eurocodes, which are classified into 58 sections, as well asnational annexes for each country . The introduction of theEurocodes in the European Union increased demands on the seismicdesign of brickwork. These new regulations have led to highersafety standards for the construction industry and, at the sametime, require engineers to use new methods and calculationprocedures.
