CoolReader is a simple-to-use application thatallows you to view the content of e-books. It supports several filetypes, including FB2, TXT, RTF, DOC, EPUB, HTML and MOBI.
This a portable app, so installing CoolReader is not required. Itmeans that you can save the tool on a removable device, store it onany computer and directly run its executable file. What’s moreimportant is the fact that no leftover items can be found in theWindows registry or hard drive.
The interface of the program is based on a clean interface withan intuitive layout. Documents can be imported with the help of thefile browser, since the ‘drag and drop’ method is notsupported.
CoolReader lets you use a search function, scroll the pages andminimize the app to the system tray, toggle full screen mode, zoomin and out, as well as rotate the page orientation.
Additionally, you can set bookmarks and directly access the tableof contents, go to the first or last page, previous or nextchapter, open recent books and export the current book to the WOLformat.
From the ‘Settings’ area you can make some adjustments when itcomes to the window (e.g. startup action, controls), page (e.g.margins, footnotes), styles (e.g. text color, background color,font hinting) and the stylesheet (e.g. alignment, first line).
The simple-to-use app requires a low amount of system resources,has a good response time and is pretty stable. We have not comeacross any issues during our tests; CoolReader did not freeze,crash or pop up error dialogs. Too bad there is no help fileavailable. Nevertheless, CoolReader’s features can be figured outeven by inexperienced users.
