C++ (pronounced “cee plus plus”) is astatically typed, free-form, multi-paradigm, compiled,general-purpose programming language. It is regarded as anintermediate-level language, as it comprises a combination of bothhigh-level and low-level language features. It was developed byBjarne Stroustrup starting in 1979 at Bell Labs as an enhancementto the C language. Originally named C with Classes, the languagewas renamed C++ in 1983, as a pun involving the incrementoperator.
Turbo C++ was a C++ compiler and integrateddevelopment environment and computer language originally fromBorland. Most recently it was distributed by EmbarcaderoTechnologies, which acquired all of Borland’s compiler tools withthe purchase of its CodeGear division in 2008. The original TurboC++ product line was put on hold after 1994, and was revived in2006 as an introductory-level IDE, essentially a stripped-downversion of their flagship C++Builder. Turbo C++ 2006 was releasedon September 5, 2006 and was available in ‘Explorer’ and’Professional’ editions. The Explorer edition was free to downloadand distribute while the Professional edition was a commercialproduct. In October 2009 Embarcadero Technologies discontinuedsupport of its 2006 C++ editions. As such, the Explorer edition isno longer available for download and the Professional edition is nolonger available for purchase from Embarcadero Technologies. TurboC++ is succeeded by C++Builder.
Turbo C is an Integrated Development Environmentand compiler for the C programming language from Borland. Firstintroduced in 1987, it was noted for its integrated developmentenvironment, small size, fast compile speed, comprehensive manualsand low price.
In May 1990, Borland replaced Turbo C with Turbo C++. In 2006,Borland reintroduced the Turbo moniker.
Borland C++ is a C and C++ programming environment(that is, an integrated development environment) for MS-DOS andMicrosoft Windows. It was the successor to Turbo C++, and includeda better debugger, the Turbo Debugger, which was written inprotected mode DOS.
